What's New in OS X Server
Designed for OS X and iOS devices, OS X Server makes it easy to share files, schedule meetings, synchronize contacts, host your own website, publish wikis, configure your Mac, iPhone or iPad, remotely access your network, and more.
Server is now an application you can add to OS X Mountain Lion right from the Mac App Store. Anyone can quickly and easily turn a Mac running OS X Mountain Lion into a server that’s perfect for home offices, businesses, schools, and hobbyists alike.
Advanced Services — More Powerful!
Introducing advanced features to make your OS X Server even more powerful. Server now supports IPv6 addresses and administration of Software Update Server, Open Directory, DNS and NetInstall services.
Alerts using push notifications
Keep an eye on your server. In addition to email, OS X Server can send push notifications to alert you about new Software Updates, unresponsive volumes, hard drives getting full, and users that have exceeded their mail quota.
File Sharing Connection Monitoring
See who is accessing your server. File Sharing connection monitoring gives you status of who is connected, how long they have been connected, and if they are idle or not. In addition you can send users greetings, and warn them if the server is going offline.
Wiki Server 4
Powerful collaboration at your fingertips. Wiki Server is tuned for iPad giving you faster more powerful ways to create, edit and share information. Wiki attachments can now be accessed using WebDAV directly within iOS applications such as Keynote, Numbers and Pages. And themes allow you to customize your wiki avatar, color scheme, banner image and background.
Profile Manager 2
All ramped up. With its overhauled engine Profile Manager now handles thousands of computers and devices on a single server. To simplify account setup Profile Manager 2 introduces support for Identity payloads, allowing administrators to define some or all user configurations for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, VPN and Messages.
Your workflow workhorse. Xsan 3 dramatically improves performance and on-disk layout of file sequences, adds support for StorNext 4 and Extended Attributes when working in a mixed-platform SAN.
Known Issues in Server 12S120i Server
Server-related command-line tools such as serveradmin and changeip have been moved to a different location in the filesystem. To make it easier to use these tools after installing Server, add the following location to your PATH environment variable: /Applications/ Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/sbin.
Some Server-related man pages may not exist in the default man page path. To add Server man pages to your default man path, add the following line to /etc/man.conf: MANPATH /Applications/ Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/share/man.
Modifying POSIX ACL's in the FTP service pane is not supported in this seed.
Adding a remote replica to a local Open Directory master is not supported in this seed. The workaround is to run Server on the replica computer and join it to an existing Open Directory domain.
When reporting bugs for Server, please attach a log archive to the bug report. A log archive can be created by issuing the following command in Terminal: sudo /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ ServerRoot/System/Library/ServerSetup/loggather.sh
Changing your machine’s IP address or hostname during installation of Server may disable some services.
Wiki Server 4
With custom color schemes, some UI elements appear blue.
Search results may not include all matching results.
Wiki configuration files have moved from /etc/collabd to /Library/
The Apache web server is present in OS X Mountain Lion, with a default configuration in /etc/apache2/ and placeholder document root in /Library/WebServer/Documents/.
Web Service is defined as the service of web content from the default site document root at /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/ Default/, plus the service of web content from any custom sites. The Apache configuration files for all web-related services managed by Server now reside in /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/.
For third-party iOS apps that allow it, copying and renaming of files is supported via WebDAV File Sharing. This does not apply to wiki files.
Folders named DropBox, Drop Box, dropbox, or <anything>.dropbox will be visible to iOS devices and treated as drop boxes.
Profile Manager 2
Installation of the "Trust Profile" from Profile Manager requires creating the following directory first: sudo mkdir -p /Library/Security
Identification payload is currently not working for Messages accounts in this seed.
• Installing a Desktop Configuration Profile with a managed printer may hang the system during user login.
On SANs that are configured as managing Users and Groups, the Computers pane may display a warning that the Backup Metadata Controller is not a Replica. You can validate that the machine is a replica using: slapconfig -getmasterconfig.
Sometimes Finder searches on Xsan volumes may cause Finder to hang. You can relaunch Finder by using the 'Force Quit' command under the Apple Menu.
Sometimes Xsan volumes may not show up on the Desktop when they are mounted. You can relaunch Finder by using the 'Force Quit' command under the Apple Menu to display the volumes on the Desktop so that the volumes appear.
Sometimes unmounting an Xsan volume results in the volume remaining mounted on the Desktop. If this happens, try relaunching Finder by using the 'Force Quit' command under the Apple Menu or rebooting the machine.
When configuring Xsan using the Xsan setup assistant, the option to "Join an existing Open Directory domain as a replica" is not supported. Choosing this option may result in a misconfigured SAN.
MCX / System Imaging Utility
Creating a NetBoot or NetRestore image from a OS X Mountain Lion Preview 1 source may error out with "<dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14009 (eDSUnknownNodeName).
In certain daisy-chained switch configurations some NetBoot clients will see the intended network startup volume in Startup Disk, but when rebooted will revert back to a local boot volume. Reducing the number of chained switches may yield the expected behavior.
Image creation may fail with a permissions error at the end of the process. The permissions can be changed via "chmod".
• The On/Off button associated with Open Directory in Server does not shut the service down when moved to the “Off” position.
When upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion, replace the current version of postfix-files with postfix-files.orig so that server promotions go without setup errors.

The default authentication for SMTP and IMAP is CRAM-MD5. Enable additional authentication support using serveradmin command line tool located in /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ ServerRoot/usr/sbin/.

Push is not working for iOS Mail clients.
